Food Fight Against Hunger: A Partnership with Second Harvest

At Food Fight, we take special care of our customers at every one of our 19 restaurants. We have an eatery for every budget and lifestyle: from casual to upscale. But there are many folks who simply can’t afford to eat out. (Some can’t even afford to eat in.) And we’re helping to take care of them, too—through a partnership with Second Harvest.

Feast of Five Chefs Second Harvest Benefit Dinner

Wednesday, November 8

Since 1986, Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin has put more than 100 million meals on the tables of the 1 in 9 southwestern Wisconsin residents who face hunger every day. The least we can do is help them a little in their efforts. On Wednesday, November 8, Johnny Delmonico’s Steakhouse will host Feast of Five Chefs, Food Fight’s annual Second Harvest Benefit Dinner. We invite you to indulge in this truly unique dining experience, as five of our Executive Chefs will be crafting a signature 5-course meal with wine pairings from Hamel Family Wines. $50 from every ticket benefits Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin. Since $1 equals 3 meals, that means 150 meals will be provided to those in need for every ticket purchased for this special dinner.

To view the menu and purchase dinner tickets, please visit http://www.secondharvestmadison.org/dinner.

A Special Beer…and Special Menus

October 30 – November 30
Want to do some good and eat and drink well throughout November? We’ve collaborated with Next Door Brewing Company to brew a special seasonal craft beer especially for Second Harvest…and each restaurant has created a limited-time menu for the entire month. We’ll donate $1 to Second Harvest for each pint of beer sold, and each dish ordered off the special menu. The beer will be offered for the entire month of November, or until it sells out.

A Special Cocktail from #lovetitos

October 30 – November 30
Love has always been at the heart of Tito’s Handmade Vodka. Tito asked you to “tell 20 of your closest friends, and we’ll just keep this thing rolling.” You did, and every time one of you shared your love for Tito’s Handmade Vodka with your friends and family Tito’s grew — into new communities, new states, and even new countries. Now Tito’s Handmade Vodka reciprocates by pouring that love back into the people and organizations that nurture, support, and empower their local communities and causes. Tito’s Handmade Vodka has partnered with Food Fight restaurants to offer a special Tito’s cocktail on our Second Harvest menus. For every cocktail you order, they’ll donate $1 to Second Harvest Foodbank, up to $5,000.

Share Your Holidays

October 30 – November 5
During the first week of November we’ll host our “Share Your Holidays” fundraiser. Each restaurant will add a line to their customer receipt, giving you the opportunity to donate and/or round up your bill to the nearest dollar as a donation to the Food Fight Against Hunger campaign.

When your host seats you, you’ll get a Second Harvest flier, which explains the program. A donation jar will be available, when appropriate, at the host desk for cash donations. And because our employees are community-involved, too, each restaurant is competing with all the others in an employee donation competition…with Food Fight matching every dollar contributed by our staff!

The Grand Finale

Wednesday, December 6
Speaking of charitably involved employees, many of your favorite chefs, servers, hosts, and bartenders will be volunteering to bring it all home during the Second Harvest Grand Finale December 6 at the Alliant Energy Center. Groups working in shifts will sort donations from the previous month in a Sort-a-thon, and others will participate in a phone bank to be broadcast live on NBC affiliate WMTV, Channel 15, from 9:30 to 10:45 pm.

We hope you’ll join us in these very special events to help a very worthy cause. Not only will you feel great, you’ll enjoy some fantastic fall flavors that can’t be experienced anywhere else.

Food Fight bids Tavernakaya farewell

Food Fight bids Tavernakaya farewell

Effective Wednesday, July 26th

TK will continue to accept Food Fight Restaurant Group® gift cards through September of 2017. However, customers will not be able to purchase Food Fight Restaurant Group® gift cards from the TK location going forward.

Today, Food Fight Restaurant Group® along with Mike Ding and Kai Kuo announce that all Food Fight Restaurant Group interests in Tavernakaya are being purchased. Ding and Kuo’s full ownership of the restaurant, located at 27 East Main Street on the Capitol Square, will become effective July 27, 2017.

TK opened in December 2015, and as the first izakaya in Madison, it changed the offerings of food in the city and on the Square. The uniquely creative concept – an American tavern combined with a Japanese izakaya – was developed by Ding and Kuo, with Food Fight providing the operating systems and administration. Since it’s launch, TK has built a loyal following in the community, including many press accolades and one of Madison Magazine’s Best New Restaurant Awards in 2016.

TK is the sister restaurant to Ding’s first culinary venture in Madison, Umami Ramen and Dumpling Bar, which opened in 2011 at 923 Williamson Street. Umami was Madison’s first ramen restaurant and it won Isthmus Madison’s favorite ramen award in 2016.

Mike Ding said, “The process of creating and opening this unique restaurant alongside such an outstanding group of professionals has been a great experience. I can’t thank our partners at Food Fight enough for helping us to get to this point. Kai and I look forward to an exciting future for TK.”

Kai Kuo adds, “We are proud of our partnership with the Food Fight team and everything we have been able to accomplish in our time together since we launched TK nearly two years ago. Madison’s food scene is at the top of its game and it is an honor to be part of this incredible culinary city.”

Kevin Henry, CEO of Food Fight said, “Since opening, Tavernakaya has been a great addition to Food Fight and the independent Madison food scene. Mike and Kai have been great to work with, and we wish them the very best as they move forward. Since day one, they have provided great leadership, and we know they will continue to take it along a successful path.”

Food Fight Restaurant Group®, established in 1990, is local and employee owned and operated, with 19 different concepts, including Monty’s Blue Plate Diner, Eldorado Grill, and Hubbard Avenue Diner.
